Loose Lay or Glue Tiles?

This guide will help you decide whether to loose lay (lay the tiles without glue) or glue down your Flexi-Tiles.

Loose Lay – No Glue Needed:

In most cases, Flexi-Tiles can be simply laid on your existing hard surface without needing glue. This makes installation quick and easy, perfect for areas with minimal foot traffic or light use.

Glueing is recommended in a few specific situations:

  • Direct Sunlight: If your floor area receives direct sunlight, like from large windows or doors, glueing is recommended. The heat can cause tiles to expand more than un-exposed areas. Glueing in this instance is recommended.
  • Heavy Traffic or Tight Turns: If your floor will experience heavy traffic from forklifts or pallet trucks, especially those with small wheels or concentrated weight, glueing is recommended. Test the tiles with your vehicles before deciding on thickness and glueing needs.
  • External Heat Sources: If your floor is near ovens, furnaces, or catalytic converters, the intense heat can cause tiles to expand. Glueing in these areas is recommended to prevent issues.
  • Staining Concerns: Certain rubber tires or chemicals may stain the tiles. If staining is a concern, consider using a two-part, solvent-free, waterborne polyurethane sealer specifically designed specifically for tiles.

By following these guidelines, you can choose the best installation method for your Flexi-Tile project. Remember, for most situations, loose laying is sufficient. However, if you have any concerns about direct sunlight, heavy traffic, heat sources or staining, glueing your Flexi-Tiles may be the best option for a secure and long-lasting installation.
