Today’s article focuses on the ESD floor tiles (Electro Static Dissipative). ESD tiles are manufactured specifically to maintain safety for employees and prevent damage to electrical equipment in areas where there is a high threat of electrostatic discharge.
What causes an Electrostatic discharge?
ESD reactions occur when differently-charged objects are brought close together or when the dielectric between them breaks down, creating a visible spark or reaction. The reaction can take the form of sparks or be less dramatic yet can still cause harmful effects to people and equipment. Anti-static devices are required to prevent this from happening.
How do the ESD tiles work?
Flexi-Tile’s ESD tiles work by redirecting electrical discharge through stainless- steel microfibres within the inner structure of the tile. Each tile is connected to a subfloor conductive grid with various earth points, eliminating potentially dangerous electric current.
What environments are suitable for ESD tiles?
- Office computer suites
- Server rooms
- Laboratories
Flexi-Tile’s ESD flooring is the only patented dissipative tile that meets all EU standards for safety and noise reduction. With an increasing number of interconnected devices, servers and equipment being used in office and factory settings ESD tiles are ideal for securing the safety of individuals and components from electrostatic damage, whilst offering the same ease of installation and minimal floor preparation as the rest of the Flexi-Tile range.
