For those of you who don’t know, Flexi-Tile is part of the Unicorn Group, and we have been doing everything in our power to reduce our carbon footprint and do our bit for the environment. At the end of last month, we saw the completion of our solar panel installation take place at our head offices in Lisburn.
Solar panel electricity systems, also known as solar photovoltaics (PV), capture the suns energy using photovoltaic cells. These cells don’t need direct sunlight to work – they can still generate some electricity on a cloudy day. The cells convert the sunlight into electricity, which can then be used to run the business.
Solar PV panels will help us cut our carbon footprint even further. Solar electricity is green renewable energy and doesn’t release any harmful carbon dioxide or other pollutants. A typical home solar PV system could save over a tonne of carbon dioxide a year – that’s more than 30 tonnes over its lifetime! So just imagine how much we can now save running our factory and offices at Lisburn!

The installation of these solar panels is the final step in our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint. Within the last year, we have installed a biomass boiler (which provides lower emissions than gas or oil heating) and energy-efficient lighting. With global warming a constant talking point regardless of where in the world you are, we as a company want to ensure that we are doing everything in our power to as environmentally friendly as we can be.
